As part of its ongoing training efforts for professionals in the customs and international trade sectors, Zoll & Legal has established a Certification Platform for Customs and Customs Litigation in the AfCFTA States, as well as a Certification Program in Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods applicable within the AfCFTA.
1. Zoll & Legal’s Customs and Customs Litigation Certification (zlCDCD)
The zlCDCD Certification validates expertise in managing customs operations, controls, and litigation within the Regional Economic Community (REC) of the AfCFTA that you have selected: ECOWAS-AfCFTA/ ECCAS-AfCFTA/ EAC-AfCFTA/ AMU-AfCFTA/ COMESA-AfCFTA/ SADC-AfCFTA/ IGAD-AfCFTA or CEN-SAD-AfCFTA. It prepares the candidate for preventive and corrective management of customs controls and litigation, ensuring mastery of the crucial aspects of Customs-Transit operations in accordance with the AfCFTA requirements and the relevant REC.
Implemented through a strategic partnership between Zoll & Legal and its regional partners, the "package" we offer is modular and high-value. It is based on a customs coaching program designed to make certified individuals immediately operational in managing customs controls and litigation, with a solid foundation in Customs-Transit.
Sessions begin in November and end in April of the following year [Click here to view the schedule].
The zlCDCD certification consists of two levels with different access requirements.
The first level (Theoretical and Practical Assessments)
is freely accessible to: transit agents, business managers, lawyers, advisors, consultants, importers, exporters, banking agents, financial institutions, and organizations in the customs sector who can write freely in French or English. This level grants access to level 2.
The second level (Certification)
is directly accessible to transit executives, customs agents, customs consultants and advisors, supply chain managers and experts, customs-transit teachers, and holders of customs and transit training certificates from specialized customs firms, with at least two years of professional experience, who can write freely in French or English.
The zlCDCD Certification Training is provided under the customs coaching model, with a theoretical component comprising about 40% and a practical component comprising about 60%. The certification is awarded after three knowledge assessments as follows:
- Theoretical Assessment: Written and oral exams on essential theoretical knowledge.
- Practical Assessment: Mastery of customs clearance procedures for import and export of goods, mastery of procedures for customs controls and litigation, and mastery of related customs risks.
- Certification:: Complete customs clearance of goods, comprehensive management of customs controls, and complete management of customs litigation.
The entire training spans six months, with ZL exams conducted at 1.5-month intervals.
Certification is contingent upon prior certification of mastery in the procedures and acts covered in the second assessment (Practical Evaluation).
The training focuses on the most effective tools offered by the dedicated Platform for this training, combining a set number of hours for remote courses with mandatory hours for in-person tutorials.
The budget for this training, including examination and certification fees, is provided upon request.
Certification and certification tools are provided and covered by ZL.
2. Certification in Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods Applicable in the AfCFTA
In partnership with the Pan-African Centre for Dispute Resolution related to Investments and Trade (CPRDIC) (based in Port Louis, Mauritius) of the African Professional Union – AfCFTA (UAP-AfCFTA), Zoll & Legal offers high-level certification training in MEDIATION, CONCILIATION, GOOD OFFICES, and PREVENTIVE AND CURATIVE MANAGEMENT OF COMMERCIAL DISPUTES RELATED TO AfCFTA INSTRUMENTS.
Through these certifications, we contribute to the emergence of new professionals who will ensure the effective implementation of all dispute resolution methods provided by AfCFTA legal instruments.
