It was in 2012, during a trip to Abidjan, that I met Prof. Antoine Joachim Oliviera, then President of the CCJA. From the very first moment of contact, I was struck by the particular form of humility that emanated from this great man. Until then, I had only seen the qualities that emanated from him in one of the African intellectuals I had known: Pr. Paul- Gérard Pougoué.
It's a sad privilege to be able to give this testimony in praise of a man who will remain one of the greatest icons of the CCJA and OHADA Law in general. In fact, this privilege that I offer myself through these columns enables me to discharge a duty of gratitude to you, Mr. President! For without knowing me, without expecting anything in return, you honored me with an accolade that remains today my fondest memory as a scholar: the organization by the CCJA of the dedication of my book on the Provisional Administration of Companies in OHADA.
At a time when I was under fire for having dared to make this additional personal contribution to the development of OHADA Law, you honored me, you celebrated me among and with the greats who had come to join you in celebrating this feat. On your decision, the CCJA organized an unforgettable ceremony in its Grande salle des audiences. In addition to your personal participation as moderator, the Court acquired a number of these books for its staff.
Relying solely on my work, you had gratified me with this relationship of esteem and benevolence... Permit me, dear Professor, Mr. President, to borrow the words of another Master to tell you that your death resounds like a call for genius not to wander in the shadows, and for the scholar not to be required to be excessively supple. After all, he is entitled to a little dignity, which he very often deserves. Please accept, then, my warmest greetings to you, Pr.- President Antoine Joachim Oliviera, as you make your way through time, towards those soothed places, purged of suffering, where fear and tears have no place, and where we are taught that milk and honey flow in abundance. You'll enjoy it in abundance. For it didn't take me long to realize that you belong to that rare breed of men who not only mark their time with their all-encompassing vision, but also leave an indelible mark on the world.
Unable to do better, I have decided to hoist your image forever on the Zoll & Legal website, effective December 1, 2017.
